Jordan's Middle Grade Recommendations for All Ages!
“Funny how sometimes you worry a lot about something, and it turns out to be nothing.” —R. J. Palacio, Wonder
Here are some great middle grade novels that are good reads no matter how old you are!
Small Spaces by Katherine Arden: This is a middle grade horror series with some spooky twists. It's about a set of friends who are trying to defeat the “smiley man” after he captures all their schoolmates. This book was really well written with a plot that is quite unique in middle grade.
From the Desk of Zoe Washington by Janae Marks: This one is about a girl who helps prove the innocence of her father who is in prison. Although the premise sounds dark, I can promise you it is not, there are a lot of lighthearted moments mixed in.
Wonder by R. J. Palacio: Augie has been homeschooled his whole childhood and he finally gets a chance to go to middle school. There’s something different about Augie though: he was born with a facial deformity. This book is the definition of don’t judge someone by their appearance, and it's such a sweet story I think everyone should read. Also, if you enjoy the book there is a great movie that has been made for it!
Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy by Rey Terciero: This graphic novel retelling of Little Women, but in a modern setting. I have never read the original version but thanks to this book I now want to.
The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan: This one is a popular one that involves Greek gods and their kids. There is a TV series currently being created, so you should check out the series before the show comes out!
