Sofi's Author Spotlight: John Green Books Ranked by How Much They Made Her Cry

"It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you."--John Green, The Fault in Our Stars

John Green is one of the few authors on my automatic-buy list every time he comes out with a new book. I’ve enjoyed all his books, but some made me cry more than others.

#6 An Abundance of Katherines

ABOK is a quick read, and it’s the book of his that had the least emotional impact on me personally.

#5 The Anthropocene Reviewed

This one might make you shed a happy tear as Green reflects on the beauty of ordinary things.

#4 Turtles All the Way Down

This book usually hits harder for people who live with OCD or love someone with OCD, but it is still a cry-worthy book even if you don’t fall into those categories.

#3 Paper Town

A solid story about not dehumanizing other people by putting them up on a pedestal. I felt like I was a better person after reading

#2 Looking for Alaska

John Green’s debut novel is a reliable tearjerker that captures the essence of both teen angst and nostalgia. The story, the writing, and the character development were all *chef’s kiss.* Watch the Hulu series adaptation for bonus tears!

#1 The Fault in Our Stars

It’s no surprise to any John Green fan that his most famous work comes in at number one. Both the book and the movie adaptation caused me many tears. I read this book in high school, and it was one of those that had me itching to read it all during class until I finished it in 2 days. I cannot recommend this one enough!
