To celebrate the release of her cookbook, Good Catch: A Guide to Sustainable Fish and Seafood with Recipes from the World's Oceans, Valentine Thomas is hosting a dinner at Seamore's in Arlington. The meal will consist of a four course tasting menu with dishes inspired by the book. Meanwhile, Valentine will demonstrate how to properly prepare a fish. The meal will conclude with a book discussion and signing. Kramers will be selling copies of the book on-site during the event, or you can purchase the book when you place your ticket order. Covering such varied diving and fishing locales such as South Africa, Scandinavia, the Marshall Islands, Taiwan, and Valentine’s native Quebec, Good Catch transports readers to those destinations with 75 recipes for dishes inspired by her catches. The recipes include both classic and creative preparations, such as Grilled Clams with butter, garlic, and parsley; a Seafood Boil; Buttermilk Fried Fish; Snapper Panzanella with grapefruit; Messy Sushi Board; and Fish Head Nachos. 

Valentine also teaches readers the surprisingly simple skills they’ll need to build a responsible repertoire of seafood recipes with tips for making the most eco-friendly choices – all aided by step-by-step illustrations, showing readers the best ways to prepare every type of fish, from raw dishes like ceviche to baked whole fish. Studded with gorgeous photography of both the dishes and scenes from Valentine’s dramatic dives—underwater and on the shore—Good Catch is more than just a fish cookbook: it’s an adventure into the world of delicious and sustainable seafood.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Born in Montreal, Valentine Thomas was trained as a lawyer in Canada and worked in finance in London for six years before leaving it all behind to pursue her passions. She quit her job and gave up the urban lifestyle to fiercely advocate for sustainable seafood systems while encouraging people to reconsider their relationship with nature, as well as their own self confidence and health and wellness. Valentine is a world record spearfisherwoman, 170ft. freediver and instructor, entrepreneur, public speaker and author. She is a two-time TEDx speaker, Forbes Changemaker, and international ambassador for ocean sustainability.

Valentine released her first cookbook, À Contre Courant, in Canada in 2019, and this Spring, will release her second one, Good Catch: A Guide to Sustainable Fish and Seafood with Recipes from the World's Oceans - a stunning and inspiring guide to selecting, preparing, and enjoying sustainable seafood, with 75 recipes, from a world-class spearfisherwoman.
